Meditation on Equality following Meeting for Worship

The Poets and Mechanics Friends Worship Group
Will Meet First Day
Dec 18, 2016, 10:00 AM
190 Taylor St, Bolivar

  • The time of FUTURE Meetings for Worship will be adjusted so as not to conflict with Shepherdstown Friends Meeting for Worship.
  • Our meditation following rise of  Meeting for Worship will be on the  Testimony of Equality.

Here are some additional links to existing testimonies on Equality.

What does our testimony of Equality teach about relations between Friends of different race or nationality backgrounds?

What does our testimony of Equality teach about relations with members of other faiths (e.g. Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Fundamentalism)?

The Testimony of Equality

We believe there is that of God in every person, and thus we believe in human equality before God. Friends pioneered in recognizing the gifts and rights of women. Women were ministers and leaders of the early meetings. Friends came more slowly to recognize the evil of slavery and of discrimination but once realized, took the forefront in abolition work.  In recent years, Friends have discovered and taken stands against additional forms of discrimination and oppression.

What does the testimony of equality mean in an era of intensified national, racial and gender divisions and discord? Do We really mean Equal? Do we mean Equitable?

The Poets and Mechanics Friends Worship Group currently meets weekly on Sundays, 10 AM  in Bolivar, WV.

Join us this coming "First Day" -- Quakerese for Sunday -- for Christmas Carols and Worship in the Quaker tradition

We gather in the Light of the Richest Quaker testimonies:Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship.

We are also formed to affirm these testimonies and contribute to them in continuing revelation. As forces of darkness, including fascism, militarism, racial and national discords, hatreds, grievous inequalities, and war once again threaten the world and all  humanity, our witness to the joy, love and power of the Quaker vision shall be our strength. You too, can be a true light of the world.
